Moxa
Moxibustion involves burning mugwort — a small, spongy herb believed to enhance healing with acupuncture — to bring gentle, warming heat near the skin's surface.
Does moxibustion hurt?
It shouldn't. With indirect moxibustion, the moxa never touches your skin. Even with direct application, you should experience only heat and warmth — your practitioner removes the moxa well before burning or blistering could occur.
Moxibustion is especially effective for conditions caused by cold pathogens or a qi/yang deficiency. It's also commonly used for breech pregnancy — when a baby is positioned feet- or bottom-first — and has proven effective for naturally turning babies without medical intervention when performed during the second or third trimester.
Commonly treated with moxa
- Joint pain
- Indigestion & gastrointestinal issues
- Organ prolapse
- Menstrual cramps & infertility
- Poor blood circulation & blood clots
- Breech pregnancy (2nd/3rd trimester)
